DIA Economy lot options — Shuttle Lots vs 61st & Peña

DIA offers two distinct economy lot types. The Economy Shuttle Lots (Pikes Peak and Longs Peak) at $10/day include a free shuttle to the terminal running every 7–10 minutes. The 61st & Peña lot at $8/day is accessible only via the RTD A-Line commuter rail — there is no car shuttle from this lot. Both are open-air surface lots with no covered protection from weather, and neither accepts advance reservations.

DIA Economy lot vs off-airport parking — which is better?

For most travelers, off-airport lots offer similar or better value compared to DIA Economy options:

  • Price — Canopy at $9/day beats the DIA Economy Shuttle Lots ($10/day) by $1/day. The 61st & Peña lot ($8/day) is cheapest but requires RTD A-Line only.
  • Shuttle — Off-airport lots provide free car shuttles every 5–15 min. The Economy Shuttle Lots have a free shuttle. The 61st & Peña lot uses A-Line rail only (no car shuttle).
  • Reservations — off-airport lots can be reserved online in advance; DIA Economy lots are walk-in only.
  • Coverage — both are open-air (Canopy and ParkDIA offer covered upgrades; the Economy lots do not).

DIA Economy lots make sense if you arrive without a reservation and all off-airport lots are sold out — which only happens at peak holidays.

Tips for parking in the DIA Economy lot

  • Take a photo of your parking section and row number — the lot is large and sections look similar.
  • Allow 20–25 minutes total to park, walk to the station, and ride the A Line to the terminal.
  • The Economy lot does not accept reservations — arrive early during holidays.
  • Consider covered off-airport options in summer — the Economy lot is open-air with no hail protection.
