DIA terminal layout overview
DIA's layout is simpler than most major US airports: one main terminal feeds into three airside concourses via an underground automated people mover. Here is the big picture:
- Jeppesen Terminal: Single main terminal — all check-in, security, baggage claim, ground transportation, and ticketing
- Terminal levels: 7 levels total (Level 1 baggage/arrivals through Level 6 security; underground train below)
- Concourse A: International gates + Frontier, Spirit; connected via underground train
- Concourse B: 60+ gates, United Airlines hub and major international carriers; the largest concourse
- Concourse C: 30+ gates, Southwest Airlines hub and other domestic carriers
The underground train runs continuously and is free — no ticket required to ride between the Jeppesen Terminal and any concourse. Travel time is roughly 2 minutes from the terminal to Concourse B (the central concourse). Concourses A and C are slightly longer rides.
Concourse guide — which airlines use which?
| Concourse | Airlines | Gates | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Concourse A | International + Frontier, Spirit | A gates | International arrivals hall; some domestic |
| Concourse B | United (hub), Lufthansa, British Airways, major US | B gates (60+) | Largest concourse; United hub; most international |
| Concourse C | Southwest, Alaska, JetBlue, American | C gates (30+) | Southwest hub; busiest domestic concourse |
Gate assignments can change seasonally. Always verify your concourse on your boarding pass or the DIA departure boards on arrival.
DIA levels explained
The Jeppesen Terminal has seven levels. Here is what is on each one:
- Level 1 — Ground Transportation / Arrivals: Baggage claim carousels, taxi and ride share pickup, hotel and off-airport shuttles, rental car center bus, RTD A-Line train access. Note: ride share pickup is in the Westin Hotel garage at Level 5 of that structure, which is physically at ground level and accessed from Level 1 of the terminal — follow the “Ride Share” signs.
- Levels 2–4 — Parking Garage: The attached terminal parking garage, accessible from Peña Blvd. Short-term and covered parking spans these levels with direct walkway access into the terminal.
- Level 5 — Departures / Check-In: All airline check-in counters, ticket counters, and bag drop. This is where you enter the terminal if coming from the attached parking garage.
- Level 6 — Security & Post-Security: TSA security checkpoints, post-security dining, retail, and the underground train entrance to Concourses A, B, and C.
- Underground — Train to Concourses: Free automated train runs continuously between the Jeppesen Terminal and all three concourses. Follow signs for your concourse (A, B, or C) after clearing security.
DIA parking — where is it on the map?
DIA's parking options span from attached garage to remote lots. Here is how they map to the terminal layout:
- Terminal Garage (short-term/covered, $35/day): Physically attached to the Jeppesen Terminal — enter from Peña Blvd and walk directly into Level 5 or 6 of the terminal. No shuttle needed. Best for quick trips or when convenience outweighs cost.
- Economy lots — Pikes Peak, Longs Peak, Mt. Elbert ($10/day): Open-air surface lots on the east side of the airport campus. Free shuttle to Level 1 of the terminal runs every 7–10 minutes. Roughly a 10–15 minute total shuttle journey.
- 61st & Peña lot ($8/day): DIA's cheapest on-airport option. Located near the RTD A-Line commuter train station. You ride the A-Line to the airport — no shuttle. The train costs ~$10.50 round trip, which partially offsets the lower parking rate.
- Off-airport private lots ($9–15/day): Located along the Peña Blvd corridor east of DIA. Free 24/7 shuttle drops you at Level 1 (arrivals/departures) of the Jeppesen Terminal in 10–15 minutes. Major operators: Canopy, Park2Jet, ParkDIA, WallyPark, Fine Airport Parking.
How to get from parking to your gate at DIA
Here is the step-by-step path from off-airport parking to your gate — the most common DIA journey for budget-conscious travelers:
- Off-airport lot shuttle drops you at Level 1 of the Jeppesen Terminal (Arrivals/Ground Transportation)
- Take escalators or elevators to Level 5 (Departures) for check-in and bag drop
- Proceed to Level 6 for TSA security checkpoints
- After clearing security, follow signs to the underground train — board for your concourse (A, B, or C)
- Ride the train (~2–4 minutes) and walk to your gate
Allow 45–75 minutes total from off-airport lot to gate under normal conditions. During peak travel periods (morning rush, summer weekends, holidays), budget 90 minutes or more to account for longer TSA wait times.
From the attached Terminal Garage, skip steps 1–2: walk directly into Level 5 or 6 from the garage bridge. Total time to gate from the garage is typically 20–30 minutes including security.
